Thomas Partey and his representatives believe the contract extension offer from Atletico Madrid is ‘rubbish’, which is why they still haven’t signed it.

Thomas Partey and his agency received a contract extension offer from Atletico Madrid six months ago. However, he still doesn’t look like signing it. Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman claims that’s because the terms on offer aren’t good enough.

Speaking to The AFC Bell, Osman explained that the contract offer didn’t meet expectations.

“I do not know the smallest details in the contract submitted by Atletico Madrid,” Osman began. “But the description that I received from my sources stated that it did not meet the aspirations of the player and his team.

“This offer is ‘rubbish’ and therefore the player did not sign it.”

As for the links to Arsenal, Osman asked the player about it personally, but Partey remained tight-lipped, refusing to say anything on the subject. The journalist did confirm quotes from the midfielder’s father as genuine, though.

“I contacted Thomas’ father and the quotes are real,” Osman continued. “He said that on the radio but was not authorized to publish those details.”

That could help explain why Partey’s representatives distanced themselves from the comments. Whether they’re true or not, the agency clearly didn’t give Jacob Partey permission to make those details public.

The whole situation is becoming a bit messy. It’s probably best for all parties that they focus on footballing matters for a while, with reports from Spain that contract talks are on hold for the time being anyway.
