There’s a lot of optimism that Thomas Partey will now renew his contract with Atletico Madrid, according to reports from Di Marzio staff.

Matteo Moretto of Di Marzio reports that these are key days for Atletico Madrid and Thomas Partey as they push for him to renew his contract. There’s reportedly a lot of optimism around the two camps that everything will turn out well.

This story seemingly goes back and forth every week. Recent reports suggested Arsenal were willing to match Thomas Partey’s €50m release clause. Then his agent commented on the rumours without really giving much away. Now a renewal seems likely.

David Ornstein confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Partey last summer. As we’ve pointed out before, though, that was a move Unai Emery was driving. We haven’t had the same kind of reliable confirmation of an Arsenal pursuit this summer. It’s mostly still speculation.

Atletico want to extend the midfielder’s contract from 2023 to 2025, upping his release clause from €50m to €100m. If they succeed in those attempts, that certainly spells the end for Arsenal’s interest.
