Jose Daniel Jimenez, Thomas Partey’s agent, says his client is under a contract that will link him to Atletico Madrid for years to come.

Recent reports suggest Arsenal are willing to match Thomas Partey’s €50m release clause to sign him from Atletico Madrid, prompting The AFC Bell to contact his agent.

As things stand, Partey still has a contract with Atletico until 2023. Some rumours suggest he’s even close to extending that further, despite the Arsenal links. Perhaps understandably, his agent is staying tight-lipped as a result.

“Thomas is a player at Atlético de Madrid at the moment,” Jimenez said. “He is under a contract that will link him to the club for years to come. That is all I can say. You know very well that I cannot answer (whether Arsenal is an attractive option for the future).”

Partey is up to 35 appearances for the season, scoring three goals and assisting one. His main contributions to the team are defensive, as he’s excellent in terms of making tackles and interceptions in midfield.

Reports last summer from David Ornstein confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Partey. It seems Unai Emery was the one driving the move, though. In the end, the higher-ups decided to focus their funds on other targets.

Atletico want to extend the midfielder’s contract from 2023 to 2025, upping his release clause from €50m to €100m. This summer could prove crucial for his future, one way or another.
