Arsenal are interested in Jonathan David and Odsonne Edouard as options if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette move on this summer.

Arsenal like Jonathan David and Odsonne Edouard as possible signings if they have to move on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette this summer, according to a YouTube update from Charles Watts.

Any transfer updates at the moment come with a huge caveat. We don’t know how much money Arsenal will have until football returns and the season ends. The Gunners could finish anywhere from the CL places to out of Europe completely.

All the same, we know from Mikel Arteta’s recent update that Arsenal are still working on the transfer front. They have to plan for various scenarios, but that doesn’t stop them from identifying targets.

Watts had a good transfer record in the January window, proving reliable on stories like Soares, Mari, Nketiah and loan exits for John-Jules and Smith Rowe. According to Watts, two of the players Arsenal like for the summer are David and Edouard.

“If either Laca or Aubameyang is sold, they (Arsenal) like Jonathan David at [Gent],” Watts said. “He’ll cost about £20-25m. Edouard at Celtic’s another player they’re looking at. So there are options there for Arsenal.”

This isn’t the first time either player has been linked with Arsenal. Check out our previous reports on David and Edouard for more information.

Could selling Lacazette make more sense than Aubameyang?

As Charles Watts highlights in his video, it might not make sense for Arsenal to sell Aubameyang.

With only a year left on his contract, this is really the last chance to cash in. However, given the coronavirus situation, it’s very possible teams won’t offer large fees for players already in the last year of their deals.

If Arsenal can’t bring in significant money for Aubameyang, why sell? Another year with him in the team and a better shot at Champions League football could be worth a lot more than a meagre fee this summer.

By contrast, Lacazette has a longer contract, seemingly serious interest from Atletico Madrid and he’s already fighting with Eddie Nketiah for a spot in the team anyway. Watts argues that could make him one of the players to sell to raise funds.

“I do think that Alexandre Lacazette could be the guy that they sell,” Watts said.

“They could keep hold of Auba and look to move on Laca. He’s obviously got two years left on his contract, Atletico Madrid have always been interested in him. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they come back in with another move this summer.

“If a decent bid comes in for Laca, I think he’s certainly one of the members of the squad that you look at. That you think if Arsenal do need to raise funds, he could be one of the better options for it.”

It’s definitely worth watching the video for yourself, as quotes can always read differently in text form. The relevant sections start at 12:56 (Lacazette) and 16:40 (David and Edouard):
