Mesut Özil excited some Arsenal fans by sending a message to Serge Gnabry on Twitter after the former Gunner appeared online in his old club’s shirt.

Gnabry wore one of this season’s Arsenal shirts in a Facebook video this week. He was doing some indoor skills for the Bayern Munich YouTube channel. The 24-year-old showed some support to his old team while he did so, something Özil took note of.

Writing to Gnabry on Twitter, Özil posted a screenshot of his old teammate in the Arsenal top along with the caption “Once a Gunner – always a Gunner?”

The two players were close friends at Arsenal and in the German national team. Özil even recommended Gnabry to Joachim Low in the first place, according to the manager himself.

So most likely, this is just a bit of banter between friends. I don’t think anyone would seriously suggest it’s an attempt to bring Gnabry back. Arsenal fans love any opportunity to go overboard, though, so that’s what they did in the replies.
