Lucas Torreira fractured his ankle against Portsmouth, ruling him out just as Kieran Tierney returns from a long-term injury of his own.

Arsenal’s latest injury update brought good news and bad news, particularly in the cases of Lucas Torreira and Kieran Tierney.

Unfortunately, we now know Torreira fractured his ankle against Portsmouth. Arsenal write that we won’t know his recovery schedule until he sees further specialists, but that’s definitely not the ideal result. It’s difficult to imagine him playing again this season.

As for Tierney, he’s finally back in full training. The left-back was slowly reintegrating himself into the squad sessions, but Arsenal now confirm that he’s getting involved properly again now.

Per the last injury update, Cedric Soares will return to full training next week. Sead Kolašinac will rejoin the squad at the end of the month after his shoulder sprain. Meanwhile, Calum Chambers is still out for the season.

Arsenal do have cover in the midfield positions, so it’s not the worst place to get an injury. It’s just a big disappointment for Torreira individually. The 24-year-old was going through a bit of a revival after escaping Unai Emery playing him at 10. We wish him the best with the specialist assessments.
