Rangers Youth Academy announced the signing of midfielder Malcolm Ebiowei this week, with the player also posting on Instagram that he can’t wait to see what the future holds with his new club.

The youngster spent time training with West Ham United, and reports suggested he had further Premier League trials. In the end, however, he made the move up north to Scotland and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

Ebiowei’s departure was reportedly more to do with whatever went on behind-the-scenes than on the pitch. His performances for the Arsenal u16s were very good, so that makes more sense. Without knowing the specifics, it’s probably better not to speculate further.

“I’m delighted to have signed for this great club,” Ebiowei said. “I know it’s very big and happy to see what the future holds. The fanbase and the fans (attracted me). I’ve heard it is one of the biggest clubs and I’ve seen the fans on multiple videos. I love it.

“I’ve seen that Steven Gerrard likes to bring up the youths if they work hard and I’d like to take that chance.”

Rangers are currently still competing in the Europa League along with Arsenal. They got a win over Braga yesterday, so there’s always a chance the two clubs might face off in the later rounds.

It’s very unlikely Ebiowei would feature, having only just joined the club at such a young age. You never know though. Good luck to him with his move.
