As we reported on the day of the game, Konstantinos Mavropanos picked up an injury playing for FC Nürnberg this weekend. At the time, it wasn’t clear exactly what the problem was, but his club have since provided an update.

Nürnberg write that Mavropanos picked up a severe pelvic bruise in a collision with Darmstadt player Serdar Dursun in the early stages of their match. At this stage, they don’t know the exact length of his absence.

They add that it’s ‘unclear’ whether Mavropanos could feature in their next game against Karlsruher SC on Friday. We can take some small encouragement from the fact they aren’t ruling him out.

Mavropanos was on a good run of form before the injury. He won consecutive Man of the Match awards in his second and third game for the club, before making a key goalline clearance in his fourth.

That form helped his team from the relegation zone to 13th in the table. Clearly, things were going well for the Arsenal loanee.

Unfortunately, the defeat after he went off at the weekend has seen Nürnberg drop back down to 15th. They’re two points clear of the promotion-relegation playoff and four clear of the automatic drop. They’ll hope his pelvic bruise doesn’t keep him out for long.
