FC Nürnberg drew 2-2 with FC Heidenheim on Friday, but they may well have lost if not for a goalline clearance from Arsenal loanee Konstantinos Mavropanos.

As we covered previously, Mavropanos won two Man of the Match awards in the two games prior to Friday’s fixture. He helped Nürnberg to a 2-0 win over Sandhausen and a 1-0 win over VfL Osnabruck, dragging his new team out of the relegation zone.

They couldn’t keep another clean sheet against Heidenheim, but not for want of trying. Mavropanos had another great game, capped off with a goalline clearance:

Mavropanos won nine of his 12 individual duels, including five of six in the air. He completed both of his attempted dribbles, made five clearances and blocked two shots.

He also made four interceptions and won more fouls (two) than he gave away (one). In possession, he completed 83% of his passes and three of six long balls.

WhoScored gave him an 8.0 rating, the second-highest on the team. As a result, he missed out on a third consecutive MOTM award from them. It was still far and away the highest rating of the Nürnberg defenders though.

Given Heidenheim’s position at fourth in the table, a draw was another good result. Nürnberg are up to 12th, five points clear of the bottom three as things stand.
