Arsenal are one of the clubs with an interest in 21-year-old AC Le Havre midfielder Pape Gueye, according to reports in Spain.

Estadio Deportivo report that AC Milan, Udinese, Arsenal and Sevilla are all watching Pape Gueye ahead of the summer. Le Havre don’t want to sell the midfielder, their star player. Still, he only has a contract with them until 2021.

Gueye is playing in Ligue 2 with his current club. Many believe he’s too good for that level though. Arsenal are probably more willing than most to gamble on a player from the French second tier, having signed Matteo Guendouzi in 2018.

The left-footed Frenchman plays as a defensive midfielder. He has excellent physical attributes, good ball-winning capabilities and distributes the ball effectively in possession. It’s not out of the question Arsenal could be in the market for someone like that.

Recent reports from the Daily Mail suggest the club are prioritising a box-to-box midfielder, a creative central midfielder and a centre-back this summer. However, David Ornstein says they’re looking for a number six midfielder.

Gueye is up to 22 appearances for Le Havre this season, providing a couple of assists. He missed their last match with a yellow-card suspension, but he often captains the team when available. Their next game is against Paris FC on February 14th.
