Sheffield United’s John Fleck says there’s no chance of him leaving in the January transfer window, amid rumours of an exit.

Earlier in the window, reports suggested Arsenal had their sights on John Fleck. At the time, the relevant sources seemed to imply a summer move, with a £20m price tag.

In typical transfer window fashion, the Sheffield United fanbase went into a panic just before the end of the January window anyway.

It was all over something the player’s wife posted on Instagram. She uploaded a message containing the line “sometimes change is a great time to press the reset button”.

Obviously, this is up there with Granit Xhaka’s “cousin” saying he was going to leave over the summer, or that time Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, Mustafi and Xhaka “removed Arsenal” from their Instagram bios.

It didn’t take long for the player himself to laugh off the rumours:

Fleck is up to 22 appearances for Sheffield United this season. He’s 28, and he would cost more than Arsenal’s entire January budget. A motivational Instagram story is still enough to convince people it might happen though.

One normal day of transfer window stories. That’s all I ask for. Will never happen.
