What a week it’s turning out to be for Arsenal Twitter. They spent Wednesday night losing their minds over the news that Granit Xhaka would be joining Inter Milan for €55m (a lie that has been completely proven false).

Not only that, but they’ve also fallen for one of the oldest social media tricks in the book, as a number of accounts reported that certain players had removed ‘Arsenal’ from their Instagram bios:

If Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi really had removed their club from their bios, it would be a bit concerning. However, just as CannonInsider first highlighted, our review of the web archives from 2018 shows they never had Arsenal in their bios in the first place.

Aubameyang clearly caught wind of the reports though, as he has since added Arsenal into his bio.

It’s not the first time this same type of story has been shut down in the same way, but it’s one of those rumours where everyone just assumes somebody else has already fact-checked it. Try checking the archives yourself next time!
