Reported Arsenal target Merih Demiral suffered an ACL injury after scoring in Juventus’ win over AS Roma on Sunday.
Demiral started against Roma at the weekend, and gave his team the lead in the third minutes. Just 16 minutes later, he had to come off with an injury.
Juventus posted on their website to confirm an anterior cruciate ligament injury along with an associated injury to the meniscus. Demiral will have to undergo surgery in the coming days.
Arsenal and Leicester City both showed an interest in Demiral in recent weeks, according to reports. Leicester even made a formal offer of €30m, whilst Borussia Dortmund bid as high as €40m.
Demiral was mostly a spectator for the first half of the season, which is why a move seemed possible. After joining Juventus in the summer, he made one league appearance between August and December 7th.
After that, the defender made it into the team, at last. He made six consecutive starts in all competitions before his injury.
Arsenal are no strangers to ACL injuries in defensive areas of the squad. Calum Chambers recently joined the list, shortly after the returns of Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding. They’ll all wish Demiral well with his own recovery, I’m sure.
