After the Mirror claimed Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are looking at Hakan Calhanoglu for a January transfer, AC Milan fans had a tongue-in-cheek response.

The Mirror posted a report on Saturday suggesting Arsenal are looking at AC Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu for a loan deal in January. They write that Milan are trying to offload the Turkey international, who is keen to keep playing regularly with the Euros in mind.

The catch is that Calhanoglu is not playing well. He has a couple of goals and an assist in 18 games this season, but the last of those came in mid-October. The Milan fans certainly aren’t very happy with him right now.

Rather than expressing relief that he might move on, those supporters took to Twitter to joke that Calhanoglu’s a crucial player for them and Arsenal would be lucky to have him.

Despite the best efforts of these supporters, I’m starting to think it might not be a good idea for Arsenal to sign him. I’m not sure why, but it’s just a feeling I’m getting. These rumours should stay in 2015 where they belong.
