Mohamed Elneny’s father told the media this week that his son wants a move to AC Milan. Nasser Elneny claimed Milan had renewed their interest in the Arsenal midfielder over a permanent move in January.

Elneny is currently on loan with Besiktas, making 18 appearances for the club. Some reports suggest he isn’t happy with the club though.

The player’s agent is playing down the Milan links. Christian Emile of Base Soccer claims Elneny is focusing on his current club for now.

“I do not find it surprising that there is speculation around Elneny. It is a compliment to his good performances in Turkey and the Europa League,” Emile said.

“However, now Mohamed is only focused on achieving his targets with Besiktas during this loan period from Arsenal.”

Elneny still has a contract with Arsenal until 2022. It’s still very possible he completes the season with Besiktas before returning to North London this summer. The Gunners are struggling in midfield, after all, and Granit Xhaka could leave.

The 27-year-old should take the chance to leave if he gets one though. He was struggling to get games throughout his last season with Arsenal. At his age, he’ll want to play regularly now.
