Arsenal are considering taking up their option to recall Eddie Nketiah from Leeds United, possibly to loan him out again, according to reports.

The Athletic claim Arsenal do have an option to recall Eddie Nketiah in the January transfer window. They’re planning to evaluate the situation in the coming weeks after it was reported they are investigating if they can recall William Saliba in January, too.

Arsenal aren’t in desperate need of another young centre-forward this season. Gabriel Martinelli is settling in quickly and Tyreece John-Jules and Folarin Balogun are on the fringes. Therefore, the Gunners may look to loan Nketiah out to a new club instead.

Leeds are aware of this and they’re already looking into potential January replacements.

The reason for Arsenal’s unwillingness to leave Nketiah with Leeds is his lack of consistent game time. The striker has two cup starts and 14 substitute appearances to show for his season so far.

All the same, he’s scored five goals, won a penalty and he played a key role in their only goal against Fulham last weekend. Nketiah doesn’t play badly when Marcelo Bielsa calls on him, he’s just finding it difficult to get into a team fighting for promotion.

Just when it looked like Nketiah might get a chance to start in early November, he suffered an injury. He just isn’t having much luck with Leeds, and might be better off somewhere else.

As for William Saliba, Arsenal would certainly be better off with him in their ranks instead of still in France…
