Nketiah still hasn’t started a Championship match since joining Leeds United on loan at the start of the season, despite showing a good goal threat in his limited minutes. That’s partly thanks to injury, but also just a struggle to displace the first-choice options.

Saturday was no different, as he made the bench against Fulham, but things didn’t start well for Leeds and they went in 1-0 down at the break.

Marcelo Bielsa called on the Arsenal loanee at half-time to try and turn things around. Nketiah came on for Helder Costa, in a rare example of the striker playing alongside Patrick Bamford. Usually, only one of them plays at a time.

Within 10 minutes, the decision appeared to pay off. Egzijan Alioski found Nketiah on the right-hand side of the box, and the 20-year-old fired a shot across the goalkeeper. The Fulham man could only palm the effort out for Bamford to tap in.

Unfortunately, Fulham reclaimed the lead in the 69th minute and ended up picking up the three points. All the same, Nketiah did his part to get them back in it, and can’t take the blame for the subsequent defensive lapse.
