Despite being linked with a move to Arsenal this summer on a free transfer after leaving PSG, Dani Alves will not be coming to London as he has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Sao Paulo in his home country.

Arsenal reportedly got in touch with Dani Alves’ representatives about securing a move for the 36-year-old in a rumour that always seemed a little odd.

Leaving aside the fact he allegedly wanted somewhere in the region of £134kpw, he’s 36!

At Sao Paulo, Alves has been given a contract or two-and-a-half years. Had Arsenal been serious about signing him there is simply no way they would have offered him anything more than a 12-month deal.

Given his age, Alves no doubt wanted to secure as long a contract as possible – you would do the same.

Alves explained his decision: “Now, in 2019 I could have picked anywhere to play but I chose to return to Brazil. For my country. For my people. For the club of my heart.

“Today I close another cycle in my life, a cycle of victory, learning and experiences,” he reportedly said on Instagram where he also added, “Dreaming is possible and realizing too ….. one day I dreamed of my cousin playing in Sao Paulo and Barcelona, today I am fulfilling the missing part of that dream!”

Glad you’re fulfilling a dream that doesn’t involve Arsenal, Dani…
