Arsenal have reportedly made contact with Dani Alves about a free move to the club this summer.

The former Barcelona man, who was managed by Unai Emery for a year when they were both at PSG, has been linked with a move to Spurs or Manchester City but Arsenal are reportedly now in the mix given he would cost nothing.

Well, that’s not strictly true. A weekly wage of €134kpw plus a hefty signing on bonus is going to be required and I can’t think of worse way to spunk cash than to throw it all at a 36-year-old, no matter his experience or demand elsewhere.

Did we learn nothing with Stephan Lichtsteiner?

In saying that, Alves’ form is much better than Lichtsteiner’s when we signed him on a free from Juventus last summer. Alves was just named Player of the Tournament at the Copa America this summer.
