AS are today reporting that Arsenal’s talks with Real Sociedad over the transfer of Nacho Monreal are at an ‘advanced’ stage and agreement could even be found in the coming hours.

Speaking after Arsenal’s game at the weekend, Unai Emery admitted that Nacho could leave before the European transfer window closed with reports that he is close to a two-year deal with the Spanish side circulating.

Now, AS report that the deal is so far advanced it could even be completed today.

They add that Real Betis’s Director of Football, Roberto Olabe, has been trying to land the 33-year-old for some time, attempting to sign him last season.

He has reportedly been in touch with Monreal’s reps, Bahía Internacional, since June of this year and is now confident they will bring him back to Spain to the city where his wife was born.

The fee with Arsenal, AS conclude, is all that’s left to agree with it expected to be nominal given the age of the player and the fact his Arsenal contract expires next summer.

It should be noted that Arsenal extended Monreal’s deal by activating the one-year option in his contract. Under Ivan Gazidis and Arsene Wenger it’s not infeasible to believe they would have simply let him leave for nothing either this summer or next.

As we reported at the time, it was still likely Arsenal would look to sell Monreal this summer despite extending and, at the start of April, it was reported in Spain that ‘everything points to’ Nacho Monreal signing for Real Sociedad this summer.
