Xavier Amaechi was left out of Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Barnet with illness, amid reports that he’s closing in on a move to a German club.

On Wednesday night, an Arsenal XI faced Barnet at The Hive London as they continued their pre-season preparations.

Shortly before the match, Sky Sports sources claimed Amaechi was ‘close to completing a permanent move to a German club’. This appeared to be confirmed when the winger was left out of the squad for the game.

Sources close to the player have informed us Amaechi was actually left out because he wasn’t well. He still travelled with the team and was in attendance for the match, he just wasn’t well enough to feature.

For those who haven’t been following the situation, Amaechi is a talented teenage winger who featured heavily for the u23s when fit last season. He hasn’t had any real chances to step up to the senior side so far though.

The youngster only has a year left on his contract, and being left out of the Europa League final squad despite travelling to Baku – before missing out on the first-team tour entirely – hasn’t helped matters.

There’s reported interest from clubs in Spain and Germany over a summer move. However, at this stage, nothing appears to be imminent, despite Sky’s claims.
