According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal have ‘arrived’ to offer €32m for Lucas Vazquez and are the ‘most interested’ in signing him this summer which is the exact opposite of what was said at the weekend.

This is, of course, an interesting ‘development’ given reports over the weekend that Arsenal have no interest in Lucas Vazquez and the club are simply being used to market the player. Well, it’s not quite a development, more a continuation of a narrative that’s already been dismissed.

Over the weekend, Spanish journalist Kike Marin reported that there’s ‘nothing at all’ in the links between Arsenal and Vazquez. Arsenal, apparently, have no interest in the winger, and reports coming from Spain that they’ve bid €32m for the 28-year-old are clearly fabricated.

Marin claims the rumours were started simply to try and get Vazquez’s name out there on the market. The winger started just 16 of Madrid’s 38 La Liga matches last season and they’re clearly trying to cash in and move on.

Last week, we suggested that Arsenal have become a target for agents to market their players to Premier League clubs, and this is likely just the latest example on a long list. Don’t be surprised to see Vazquez completing a deadline-day move to West Ham or similar.

Vazquez scored five goals and assisted four in 47 appearances last season, a goal contribution every 295 minutes.
