Arsenal want to get rid of Laurent Koscielny this summer, with Borussia Dortmund interested in signing him, according to reports in Germany.

German outlet Bild report that Borussia Dortmund see Koscielny as a serious option this summer, with Arsenal actively trying to offload the 33-year-old.

Reports in Italy suggested the Gunners previously offered Koscielny to Inter Milan, whilst French outlet L’Equipe claimed Rennes, Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan had all made contact over a move.

With Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey already heading out the door, this would be the third of Unai Emery’s five club captains to leave this summer. Granit Xhaka and Mesut Özil would be the only two remaining, and it’s not as if their futures are certain either.

Presumably, Arsenal wouldn’t bring too much in for a player who turns 34 in September with only a year left on his contract. The extra space on the wage bill would help though, and every little helps with the current state of the transfer budget.

At the same time, Koscielny has performed well this season, despite his age. He recovered from injury effectively and was Arsenal’s best performing defender for the rest of the season, albeit in the absence of Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding.

Losing him will mean another defensive shake-up next season, so the board better be prepared to make the necessary signings for that.
