Torreira is currently away with Uruguay preparing for the Copa America, for those of you interested in sports betting, but that hasn’t stopped the transfer rumour mill from putting out stories about him.

TMW report that Marco Giampaolo, the current manager of Sampdoria who is expected to join AC Milan imminently, wants to bring his former midfielder with him to his new club.

Giampaolo and Torreira spent two seasons together with Sampdoria, with the Uruguayan making the Serie A team of the season in his second campaign, before earning his move to Arsenal.

After observing Torreira’s strong debut season in England, Milan are reportedly thinking about a move for him this summer. At the moment, it’s nothing more than interest, but TMW report it could progress from that in the coming weeks.

They add that Torreira currently has no plans to return to Italy, and he has a contract until 2023 with Arsenal. You wouldn’t think the Gunners would have any plans to sell him either, given his age and relatively smooth adaptation to Premier League football.

For now, there seems to be nothing more to this story than the usual media links between a new manager and one of his old players.
