Arsenal announced the re-signing of 28-year-old Jennifer Beattie on Wednesday afternoon. The defender was out of contract with Manchester City and the club were quick to move to seal her signature on a free.

The Gunners have already announced Jill Roord, Manuela Zinsberger and Leonie Maier making Beattie the club’s fourth signing of the summer.

Beattie signed for City in 2015 when she moved from Montepellier, the club she joined after four years with Arsenal.

She has over 100 caps for her country and will bring a wealth of experience to the new FA WSL Champions as they head back to the Champions League for the first time since 2013.

“Jen is a strong and experienced defender,” Joe Montemurro told Arsenal.com.

“We’re delighted that she wanted to return back to Arsenal to help us take our success to the next level next season. She knows what this special club stands for, and she shares the same commitment and values. We are looking forward to working with her after the World Cup.”

In her first spell with Arsenal, Beattie helped the club win the FA Women’s Super League (2012, 2013), the FA WSL Continental Cup (2011, 2012, 2013) and SSE Women’s FA Cup (2011, 2013).
