Arsenal face competition for Djene Dakonam from Everton if they are still interested in the defender who comes with a €35m release clause.

Back in May, it was reported that Unai Emery had been watching Getafe centre-back Djene Dakonam ahead of a possible summer move.

Jeremy Wilson of the Telegraph reported that Arsenal boss Unai Emery had been present at a number of matches to watch the defender. David Ornstein added (via Metro) that centre-back is a priority for the Gunners this summer, and Djene has a reported value of £13.5m.

His release clause, however, is €35m and it is believed that his club won’t let him go for a penny under that amount. Given that he is under contract until 2023, they are in a strong position.

Marca report that Everton, who need to replace Phil Jagielka (retiring) and Kurt Zouma (returning to Chelsea), are now ‘set to enter the race’ for the player.

The 27-year-old joined Getafe in 2017 and has been a regular ever since, totalling up 70 league appearances in that time.
