Jeremy Wilson of the Telegraph reports that Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been present at a number of recent matches to watch the defender. David Ornstein adds (via Metro) that centre-back is a priority for the Gunners this summer, and Djene has a reported value of £13.5m.

The centre-back only has a contract until 2021, but Arsenal still have to go through some negotiations to secure the 27-year-old’s signature. Djene has been very impressive in La Liga though, despite playing for one of the so-called smaller sides in the division.

With Djene as a regular starter, Getafe have made a shock run up the table to fifth place, and they could even secure Champions League football on the final day. This is largely thanks to their defensive record, with only Atletico Madrid conceding fewer goals this season.

Perhaps Emery has spent so much time attending Getafe matches to try and establish exactly how much credit Djene deserves for his team’s defensive achievements. We’ll have to wait and see what the Arsenal head coach has made of him this summer.
