A few days ago we reported that Maier was expected to join her former teammates at Arsenal and on Friday the club confirmed they had sealed her signature. The Gunners have already announced Jill Roord and Manuela Zinsberger

“I’m very proud to be part of this amazing club,” Leonie told Arsenal.com. “It has always been a dream of mine to play abroad and I think that the Women’s Super League has developed in an amazing way for the last few years, so for me it’s a great honour to join Arsenal.”

26-year-old Maier signed for Bayern Munich in 2013, moving from SC 07 Bad Neuenahr after a year with VfL Sndelfingen.

Capped almost 70 times for her country, the defender has also been included in their World Cup squad for the tournament in France this summer.

Arsenal are also expected to bring in a Scottish defender from Manchester City.
