Voted Player of the Year by her fellow professionals but that’s not good enough for the male-dominated sports writer’s association who opted for Nikita Parris instead

The 22-year-old Dutch forward helped her side claim the Super League on Sunday, bringing the title back to Arsenal after a long seven-year wait.

Later that evening she was named PFA Player of the Year before missing out on the Football Writer’s Award by one vote because they allowed Daily Mail journalists to vote.

Speaking after the title win, Miedema had this to say, “We’ve had quite a hard period after the 2012 title. There’s a lot been going on at the club but we found a way back upwards again,” she said.

“We showed that this year with winning the league.

“I want to win the Champions League and I would love to win the Champions League with Arsenal.”

It’s not just for Arsenal that Miedema has been on fire. At the start of April, she scored her 100th goal for the Netherlands (57 senior, 43 youth).

She has 31 goals in all competitions this season for Arsenal.
