Arsenal look set to miss out on Antonio Valencia who seems poised for a reunion with Wayne Rooney at DC United.

Arsenal were, reportedly, interested in signing Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera from Manchester United this summer when the duos’ contracts with the club expire.

Herrera, however, seems set for PSG while Valencia looks like he’s heading Stateside.

On Tuesday, the 33-year-old retweeted and liked a post from a DC United fan who tweeted a report from the player’s home country that read, “Based on a special request from one of them, the Manchester United goalscoring duo will become a reality again in the capital of the United States. Two-year contract about to be finalised with D.C. United.”

With just eight appearances this season and a calf injury that has troubled him for a number of months, Valencia’s time at United seems very clearly to be over.

Back in March, Valencia’s father linked him with a move to Arsenal and three other clubs.

“He definitely will not continue in Manchester,” Luis Valencia confirmed (via Sport Witness). “He wants to change the air and the club is not going to renew him either. Like everything in life, everything has its end.”

Valencia’s father then responded to a question about his son’s options, saying: “Arsenal, West Ham, Inter Milan and one from China are options, but in football, everything is changing.

“He wants to choose the best option, but above all, he wants to sign a contract for two years. Not for the money, but for peace and, hopefully, he told me, be hired by a team that fights for important things.”

Whether or not he gets the second part of his wish with DC United remains to be seen but it looks like he’s got the two-year deal he wanted.

Arsenal fans weren’t best impressed with him being linked to the club in the first place so this news will come as more of a relief than disappointment.
