Former Arsenal right-back Lauren thinks the Gunners would be ‘crazy’ not to try and sign Anthony Martial, assuming the Manchester United striker doesn’t renew his contract.

As things stand, Martial’s contract will expire in the summer. However, United do have the option to extend his deal by a further year, to avoid losing him for free in a few months time.

Nonetheless, if Martial decides he doesn’t want to renew and United activate the extension, they’ll surely try to cash in next summer anyway. As well as the Frenchman has been playing, it wouldn’t be worth losing him for free just for one season of playing time. If United are open to selling, Lauren thinks Arsenal should make a move:

“If Martial doesn’t renew his contract at Man Utd, Arsenal would be crazy not to try and snap him up,” Lauren told Sportingbet. “He’s a fantastic player and is starting to show what he can really do when given a good run of games.

“Martial won’t go anywhere without being guaranteed first-team football, which I think he would get at Arsenal.”

Lauren isn’t the first to suggest Arsenal should sign Martial. Robert Pires said the same thing earlier this year, suggesting he would “welcome” the striker in North London.

There does seem to be a spot opening up in the Arsenal squad, considering Danny Welbeck’s contract is coming to an end in the summer. Martial can also play in the wide positions, which is another area where the Gunners could use some reinforcements.

Right now, Martial is performing impressively, with six goals in his last six league games. However, you still get the sense that he doesn’t get on with Jose Mourinho, and would relish the opportunity to have a new start somewhere else. Whether that’s at Arsenal, we’ll have to wait and see.
