Alex Iwobi says Unai Emery is encouraging him to be positive, even if he makes mistakes, and to keep on working hard for the full 90 minutes.

Iwobi is showing improvement every week since the season began, most recently winning the official man of the match for his performance against Leicester on Monday. The fans have taken notice of the Nigerian international’s progress, even making a new chant for him.

When asked by Arsenal Media about the reason for his good form, Iwobi gave a lot of credit to Emery’s advice.

“Yeah, it’s going well, I’m very confident now,” he said. “The manager is always being very positive to me, he’s always telling me to keep on going even if I make a mistake.

“That’s what I’m showing, and also proving to myself that I can put in 100 per cent throughout the game, and that’s why I’m shattered right now! Yeah, that’s basically what he’s been telling me.”

Iwobi certainly gave his all against Leicester. He had to get up and down the pitch all game, and he made more tackles than anyone else on the team. Arsenal have now put together 10 wins in a row, but the 22-year-old is focusing on the next one against Sporting Lisbon.

“It’s good (winning 10 matches), let’s try and make it 11. That’s what we want to do, and I’m sure the fans do too. We can’t just dwell on it, let’s keep on going and better ourselves.”

The winger has travelled with the squad to Lisbon, along with many others who took part in Monday’s game. The likes of Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Mesut Özil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and others have all made the trip.

You’d expect some rotation from Emery though, considering how many games are taking place in quick succession. There’s another Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday to think about. We’ll see.
