Arsenal’s women continued their winning run as the men faltered, putting four without reply past Bristol City at the Stoke Gifford Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal went into the game knowing that Manchester City had already dropped points when they could only draw on Friday with Reading.

Joe Montemurro’s side opened the scoring through Jordan Nobbs in the 13th minute before Vivianne Miedema, quite possibly the hottest forward on the planet at present with 10 goals in six games, netted a brace. Danielle van de Donk finished off the scoring in the 90th minute.

Chelsea also won on Sunday, beating Liverpool 1-0 thanks to a 27th-minute goal from Magdalena Eriksson. Their win, however, merely ensured they remain eight points behind Arsenal who also have a game in hand.

Liverpool’s defeat helped increase Arsenal’s lead over them to nine points.

“I think that he’s [Joe Montemurro] creating something really good with this team and we can all see that we’re playing better and with a lot of confidence, so it’s good that he can just continue to put his style into the team, we can move on and get better and better,” Dominique Bloodworth said.

“I just think it’s confidence and now we know what we can expect from each other. The team spirit right now is brilliant and that’s something that you can rely on.”
