Manchester City could only draw 1-1 with Reading on Friday night leaving Arsenal with the chance to extend their lead at the top of the FAWSL even further.

Arsenal have been in imperious form this season, with manager Joe Montemurro guiding them to the top of the league with 15 points from five games, scoring 27 and conceding just 3 on the way.

They face Bristol on Sunday and now know that a win will take them three points clear of one of their main rivals for the title, with a game in hand.

Nick Cushing’s side put in a dominant display during the first half against the Royals, but a sputtering second gave former Arsenal star, Fara Williams, the chance to deliver a corner that allowed Jade Moore to nod home an equaliser.

Georgia Stanway had netted City’s goal in the 33rd minute.

Reading were handed a footballing lesson in their last game when Arsenal beat them 6-0.

Chelsea, who were also seen as one of the main contenders for the title, are currently in 7th place some eight points behind Arsenal having played a game more. They play Liverpool at Kingsmeadow on Saturday at 12.30pm.
