AC Milan are monitoring Aaron Ramsey, with a view to a potential move for the player next year, according to reports in Italy.

Fresh from poaching Arsenal’s chief executive Ivan Gazidis from them, Milan are now reportedly planning a move for Ramsey. Calciomercato write that the Italian club have made contact with the Welshman over a transfer in the past, and now their interest is starting to look more ‘concrete’.

They add that everything depends on the state of Arsenal’s current negotiations with Ramsey, of course. The midfielder has a year left on his current deal with the Gunners, and if he chooses not to extend, Milan could negotiate a pre-contract agreement with the 27-year-old in January.

The Italians reportedly expect to have to pay no less than €6m-a-season to convince Ramsey. Perhaps even more than that, again depending on negotiations with Arsenal. The player has himself in a situation where he can start a bit of a bidding war with his wages.

At the same time, Ramsey’s performances need to be good enough for the major clubs to want to outbid each other. He’s had a slow start to the season, and needs to pick it up if he wants to generate real interest, or get Arsenal to up their offer. Hopefully he does.
