Arsenal will not pay Aaron Ramsey the same wages as Mesut Ozil as the club urge him to commit his future to the club.

With Ramsey already turning down one contract offer from the club, James Olley in the Evening Standard reports that the club are not willing to offer him the same ridiculous £350kpw that the German earns.

The good thing is it doesn’t appear that Ramsey, nor his camp, are asking for that much. But that’s the problem you run into when you no longer have a salary cap and one star is earning significantly more than all the rest – all the players start to want more, more, more. The club have, however, allegedly told Ramsey that Ozil carries specific worldwide commercial appeal that helps offset his wages and that he should not use that as a benchmark.

The Welshman currently earns £110kpw and is believed to want a large increase on that, understandably. Some reports claim he wants to double his wages to just over £200kpw. Arsenal and the player are still said to be some distance from an agreement on what constitutes an appropriate wage for the player.

Olley also reports that Emery is under pressure to reduce Arsenal’s wage bill which is likely to see more sales before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

As for why Ramsey didn’t start against Chelsea, he reportedly has a ‘lingering calf injury’ and the club didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks.
