Kelechi Nwakali finally completed his loan move to Porto and the midfielder is hoping that it will help him ‘evolve as a player’.
At the start of July, his brother and agent, Allwell, confirmed that the player was set for a move to the Portuguese side on loan. This has now been confirmed and the player has been speaking about the move.
“My main goal is to develop and evolve as a player, to improve my qualities and the other aspects that I know I need to correct to grow in the way I play,” he told CompleteSportsNigeria.
“I think FC Porto is the right place to evolve as a player.
“I know Porto very well, because one of my idols in football played here: Deco. He was a player that I loved to watch and I hope one day being able to meet him and tell him the importance he had in my desire to be a football player.”
The main hope for the coming season is that Nwakali performs well enough to earn a call up to the Nigerian national team. After that, a work permit to play in England should follow.
Knowing this, the player has vowed to fight his way into his national team, stating: “I will play every game the Super Eagles would play henceforth until the Qatar 2022 World Cup finals.”
In the same Instagram Q&A, he confirmed he would start training with Porto on Monday, 16 July.
His brother, Allwell added, “By the grace of God, this time, we expect him to get his work permit after the end of the season and a call-up to the Nigeria national team.
“I believe he will do well at Porto, they wanted to include an option to buy but Arsenal refused to accept the offer.”
