Chelsea have already moved on from their reported brief attempt to sign Aaron Ramsey, and are now pursuing Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic, according to reports.

The Daily Mail on Tuesday claim that Chelsea have enquired about the availability of Kovacic, and are looking at him as an alternative to Ramsey. The 24-year-old is keen to leave, but Madrid reportedly aren’t looking to sell. Meanwhile, Danny Drinkwater may end up leaving on loan if Chelsea do sign a new midfielder.

The story comes just days after the same paper reported Chelsea were preparing a £30m move for Ramsey. Perhaps the response they got from Arsenal was so emphatic they decided to immediately move on, or maybe the story was planted by the Welshman’s agent to help further his contract negotiations.

Alternatively, it could just be the Daily Mail fabricating stories to generate a bit more interest in the Arsenal-Chelsea friendly coming up on Wednesday. It’s the same sort of thing most publications do throughout the season before matches between two clubs.

Regardless, the important thing is that it seems like Ramsey isn’t going to Chelsea. After Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving for Liverpool and Alexis Sanchez joining Manchester United in the last year, I think most Arsenal fans have had enough of players leaving for rivals at this point.
