Santi Cazorla left Arsenal this summer in one of the saddest departures from the club in recent memory.

A real fan favourite, his struggles with injury over the past two seasons meant he left the club with a whimper. While many of us hoped for a miracle, the Spaniard is still facing a massive uphill battle to return to the playing field.

While he looks to do that with Villarreal, Arsenal need to find a replacement and that’s not going to be easy.

Here are 10 options for them to consider:

1Max Meyer

Meyer has often been linked with a move to Arsenal and regularly tipped to replace Santi Cazorla. Recently, according to Bild, the Schalke midfielder rejected the chance to sign a contract extension in Germany.

The 22-year-old has until the end of the season to change his mind but, with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly banging on the door, the youngster could choose to move on.

The 22-year-old’s technical ability and style of play are remarkably similar to the little Spaniard‘s. The midfielder is talented and if Arsenal can get him on a free, they will have paid nothing for a real player for the future.

Meyer has been at Schalke since 2009 so I’m sure he won’t take any decision lightly.
