Arsenal are reportedly prepared to pay €20m for Sporting’s right-back, Cristiano Piccini.

Despite reports in the press on Tuesday that Arsenal will restrict their new manager’s spending to £50m plus whatever he can get from sales, the Gunners continue to be linked with a host of players.

New names are added to the list almost daily.

That brings us to the 25-year-old, Cristiano Piccini.

Reporting on Tuesday, Jornal de Noticias, claim that Arsenal are willing to sign the player this summer and will ‘seduce’ Sporting with a €20m offer.

This might be true but it also depends on the new manager and whether or not he wants to bring in this player.

Piccini only signed for Sporting last summer.

He moved from Real Betis for £2.58m, signing a contract until 2022.

Three goals in 22 Liga NOS appearances means he’s certainly no Nacho Monreal, but the full-back comes with high concentration levels which would be useful in Arsenal’s backline.

It’s hard to see how Piccini would give up a starting spot with Sporting to play backup to Hector Bellerin but there is no guarantee that Bellerin will want to stay at the club beyond this summer, despite signing a contract until 2023.

His head was well and truly turned by Barcelona last summer and we can only hope he wants to stay to see what life is like under a new manager.

If he does, Piccini will find himself in the same situation as Sead Kolasinac – a bit-part player in less important games.
