Arsenal have reportedly asked Leicester if they will accept £40m for their defender, Harry Maguire.

The Daily Star report that the Gunners made a ‘£40m enquiry’ in January which to me suggests someone from the club asked the Foxes if that’s an offer they’d be interested in.

It was not.

The Star also report that Manchester United are in pole position to land the Englishman who they believe will cost around £50m which is just stupid money for Maguire (as is £40m) but we of course have to factor for the English premium.

Maguire is expected to go to Russia with his country this summer and a good showing there will simply raise his price more.

Leicester, for their part, do not want to sell any of their big stars and are rerpotedly ready to resist all offers in the same way they have with Riyad Mahrez.

Should Leicester lose Maguire, they are hoping to land West Brom’s Jonny Evans for £3m when they are relegated.

Evans is another who has been heavily linked with Arsenal but is believed to prefer a move to Manchester City.

Well you would, wouldn’t you?

Claude Puel, meanwhile, said, “Harry is a valuable player and I want to build my team around him.

“It is important to give him a good feeling for the future.”
