Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had his first training session with Arsenal on Thursday and it seems he wasn’t expecting to run into legend, Robert Pires.

Aubameyang had his first training session at London Colney today (Thursday) and it appears he ran into Arsenal legend, Robert Pires.

The Gabon international’s father, Yaya, used to play for Le Havre, Toulouse and later Nice back in the 1980s and 1990s. He knows French football, so I’m sure Aubameyang’s entire family are well aware of what a player the ex-France international used to be.

Although Pires is often spotted at the Gunners’ training ground, chatting with Arsene Wenger or jogging along with the players, I can’t help but think the former Invincible was there to meet Arsenal’s record signing on his first day.

Aubameyang took to social media after his training session to express what an “honour” it was to be in the company of Pires.

Although the training ground looks a bit empty in the pictures of the striker, there is one photo of him appearing to remove his glove as he goes to shake Wenger’s hand, which is a nice touch.

Arsenal play Everton at the Emirates on Saturday and while it’s unclear what role Aubameyang will have in the match – if any – I’m sure fans won’t have to wait too long to see their club record signing in the flesh.
