Burnley are hoping to sign Rob Holding on loan should Arsenal sign Jonny Evans from West Brom.

Arsenal’s interest in Evans isn’t quite dead yet, but time is running out on getting a deal done. Should they end up signing the defender, it could see one of our young players go out loan for the rest of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, Burnley are hoping to sign Rob Holding in the event that we do sign Evans before Wednesday’s deadline.

The arrival of the Northern Ireland international, who won three Premier League titles with former side Manchester United would be added experience in the Arsenal backline, and the potential to former a partnership with Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi.

Per Mertesacker remains a back-up choice, while Calum Chambers has returned to the first-team picture, although still has an uncertain long-term future. Nacho Monreal also remains a makeshift option.

That would leave Holding with precious few opportunities for first-team football. There is still considerable doubt about whether Arsenal will sign Evans, however.

A fee has yet to be agreed with West Brom, while the player himself limped off with a hamstring injury during their 3-2 win over Liverpool during the weekend.

West Brom manager Alan Pardew is unsure whether the injury will prevent a move, and said they’d have to wait and see.
