Arsenal’s u23s claimed a second consecutive win in the Premier League 2, completing a league double over Manchester City with a 1-0 victory.

Five youngsters who were involved in the mid-week Europa League match came in for the u23 match on Sunday. Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock all started against City, as did Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Ben Sheaf, who both made the bench on Thursday. Krystian Bielik also returned to the side after his shoulder injury.

Arsenal started the game well, and were on top for most of the first half.

Joe Willock came closest to a goal when his long-range effort hit the crossbar, and he hit the bar again not too long afterwards.

City were forced into an early substitution, with Tom Dele coming on for Matt Smith. But the two sides went in level at 0-0 at the break.

Early in the second half, the Gunners managed to take advantage of their dominance as Jordi Osei-Tutu opened the scoring with a curling effort.

Osei-Tutu signed a new contract with the club earlier in the week, so it was great for him to get a goal to round off a good few days, especially as he isn’t usually involved in the goals from right wing-back. This was his first of the campaign.

Arsenal started to pile on the pressure, and Aro Muric had to make a double save to deny Reiss Nelson from increasing the Gunners’ advantage.

Despite City rallying late on, they couldn’t get an equaliser, and Arsenal’s academy side left a snowy Manchester Academy stadium with three points.

Starting XI: Iliev, Osei-Tutu, Dragomir, Sheaf, Bielik, Pleguezuelo, Nelson, Da Silva, Nketiah, Willock, Reine-Adelaide.

Substitutes: McGuane, Keto, Gilmour, Bola, Fortune.
