Robert Pires believes that the Arsenal Invincible team would beat the current Manchester City side.
With Manchester City going the season unbeaten looking a more realistic prospect by the week, comparisons between them and the 2003/04 Arsenal team are becoming common.
Yet, despite City’s very impressive run of form in the Premier League this season, Robert Pires has no doubts which side would win.
“I think my team had more quality,” Pires told CNN Sport.
City are smashing all kinds of records this season.
Their 15 match unbeaten run is the longest in English top flight history – a record that hadn’t been broken since 1905.
Their 49 points is also the highest any English side has ever accrued by this point in the season.
That same points total would have been enough to finish eighth last season.
There’s little doubt that Manchester City will win the Premier League this season.
The challenge for them will be to keep up their level of performance and motivation for the whole season.
Teams can lose focus when they have it so easy, so while City have the quality to go unbeaten, there are plenty of opportunities for them to slip up and leave Arsenal’s Invincible record in place.
