Arsenal scout Shaun O’Connor has been promoted to a senior role as part of the Gunners ongoing staff shake-up. He was previously spotting youth talent at the club.
More changes to the back-room team are due, with the Daily Mail reporting that Shaun O’Connor is set for a promotion to Arsenal scout.
O’Connor, who works as the recruitment co-ordinator for Arsenal’s Hale End academy, has spotted the likes of Jack Wilshere, Alex Iwobi, Chris Willock and Chuba Akpom.
According to the Mail, he will be promoted to a senior scout. He will have the task of looking for domestic players for the club to sign.
The move is part of a revamp led by new Head of Recruitment, Sven Mislintat, which also includes giving more influence to France scout Giles Grimandi who has been Arsenal’s scout for French talent for a number of years.
The Mail also notes that Arsenal’s Head of International Recruitment, Francis Cagigao, faces an uncertain future as several clubs are looking to sign him. The Spaniard unearthed Cesc Fabregas in 2004.
Mislintat was appointed the club’s new head of recruitment in November. He replaced Steve Rowley as the club’s chief scout, and is part of a backroom overhaul.
Raul Sanllehi also arrived in November as the club’s new Head of Football Relations and will assist with transfers. It seems work is already being done to improve Arsenal’s recruitment team.
The expectation is that the new arrivals will make Arsenal more efficient in the transfer market. Mislintat has already recommended Mainz defender Abdou Diallo to the club.
In addition, Wolfsburg centre-back Ohis Felix Uduokahi comes with the Mislintat seal of approval. This season, we’ve seen an extraordinary number of backroom changes. Let’s hope it amounts to something in the future.
