Should Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez joined Manchester City as expected, Real Madrid could be free to sign Sergio Aguero as part of the transfer chain reaction.

Alexis was close to joining City at the end of the summer transfer window, but Arsenal pulled the plug at the last minute.

Since then, the expectation has been that the Chilean will end up in Manchester eventually, regardless of interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Should that happen, Madrid will seek other targets, according to Don Balon. This could effect Arsenal as a few of those targets have been linked with the club.

One of those targets is City’s Sergio Aguero, who Alexis could potentially replace at the Etihad Stadium. Should Aguero sign for Madrid, they will look to offload Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in the summer.

All three have been linked with Arsenal at various point as potential replacements for Alexis. At the same time, this business could go ahead without involving Arsenal at all.

The Gunners will likely need a replacement for Alexis no matter what Madrid do, and have plenty of options around Europe to choose from.
