With Arsenal’s 2017/18 third kit being vastly more popular with Gooners than their home and away strips, we take a look some of the best Arsenal kits to ever exist.
When it comes to football kits, Arsenal fans know what they like.
While Gooners loved the dark grey and pink third kit this season, the vast majority were pretty disgusted with the blue away kit, which looked far more like a Chelsea cast off than an Arsenal shirt.
Over the years, we’ve had some stinkers. The bruised banana, the pink goalkeeper, that weird green one, shirts that looked like they were designed on Microsoft Powerpoint… you get the idea.
However we’ve also been privileged enough to have some rather aesthetically pleasing strips. From our yellow FA Cup shirts to classic red home kits, it’s hard to say no season after season, despite the rather hefty sum they cost.
Here are six of Arsenal’s best kits.
Away shirt 1979
Arsenal won the FA Cup against Manchester United wearing this shirt. Respect must be paid.
Home shirt 1979-81
Simple and classic.
Home shirt 2003-04
The Invincibles’ shirt. How could you not love it?
Home shirt 2005-06
The red current colour divided opinion but I always thought it was rather lovely.
Home shirt 1986-88
The simple design, clean lines and long sleeves. It was classy while remaining traditional.
Home shirt 1989
This has always been my favourite shirt. Possibly because it’s a classic, partly because it was the strip the year I was born.
In my opinion, it’s probably our best one.
