Vivianne Miedema has spoken about her desire to inspire the next generation.

Despite being just 21, Miedema isn’t content with just playing football at the top level, she’s determined to inspire the next generation to do the same and is striving for a more even playing field in the sport.

“You need to be honest – if you watch a women’s game from 10 years ago, I wouldn’t watch it. It just wasn’t good enough at that time,” she revealed to the Guardian. “But we are making the steps to make it good enough, to show the games, to attract people to come back to our stadiums.

“So many young girls are playing in the Netherlands. If you look at other countries, girls don’t get that chance. That is not fair. That won’t happen in men’s football. We need to develop the women’s game. It’s a right to play football.”

She continued, “Me playing at Bayern, Robben playing at Bayern, I guess that’s why they said it.

“But it’s so hard to compare yourself to that player.

“You just hope that in 10 years people will say: ‘I want to play like Jodie Taylor and Vivianne Miedema.’ That’s the step we need to make.”

Recently, Miedema spoke about wanting the Dutch women’s side to earn the same as the men’s as they work just as hard.

She’s clearly a driven woman and it’s amazing to see how passionate she obviously is about the cause.

Miedema only signed for Arsenal from Bayern Munich in May and is already taking the FA WSL by storm. She’s scored twice in six appearances in the league and has already become a regular in the first team.

The forward has scored an impressive 47 goals in 59 international appearances. At Euro 2017 alone she netted four – two of which were in the final against Denmark.

If anyone’s going to inspire the next generation of young women to play football, it’s her. She’s a fantastic player who’s still young and developing her game by the day. She’s a hero for her country and has a positive, modern outlook on women’s football.

Miedema is already an inspiration. I can’t wait for people to start recognising it.
