2 September marked four years since Mesut Ozil signed for Arsenal from Real Madrid and the playmaker had a lot to say on social media.

Ozil posted a well-thought out message to his fans and critics on his fourth Arsenal-versary, praising the club while slamming those who have been disrespectful in the press, including former players.

Ozil is the only player who’s actually spoken out in detail about the current state of Arsenal. The 28-year-old was part of that 4-0 thrashing at Anfield a week ago and knows far better than us what’s actually going on at the club.

However, instead he chose to focus on the positives and took the opportunity to tell his millions of followers how integral Arsene Wenger was to his move to north London.

The Germany international went on to blast former Gunners who, instead of standing by the club they once played for, have chosen to tear it down. Not that you could really blame them but that’s another matter.

“Personally I’ve had to accept a lot of criticism during my time in London,” Ozil said.

“Too expensive, too greedy, bad body language, and lacking fight – this is what people have said about me.

“Some of these comments are made by those who do not know me, some are made by former players – both successful and unsuccessful during their time here at the club. Although criticism is something that all football players have to deal with, I nevertheless expected legends to behave like legends – my advice to these former Gunners is stop talking and start supporting.”

Since signing for Arsenal in 2013, Ozil has appeared in 164 games across all competitions,  scoring 32 goals and assisting 57.

The playmaker is currently away with the German national team and bagged himself an assist during their 2-1 win over the Czech Republic.
